If you want to know what I am doing, then follow my blog.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01759771880000168761noreply@blogger.comBlogger82125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1146895402290920196.post-61062079546002568412016-07-04T11:30:00.000-07:002016-07-07T23:33:48.496-07:00Great Fun, Spiritual Week!Happy 4th of July everyone! I can’t believe this is the third 4th of July that I haven’t been in the USA. Today started off with a phone call from another apartment with 3 American missionaries (one a Texas hick) and an Argentinean singing "The Star Spangled Banner", it was hilarious. The mission is awesome, what a great week we had this week. I can’t believe this is like my second to the last Pday, time sure has flown by.

We started off visiting some less actives, that I found out were great members here, and at one time really worked hard in building the ward here, spent hours upon hours visiting and working and strengthening the members. We are just trying to help them come back to church and help them remember why the came to church before.

At church we were taught about the 40 day fast or personal sanctification, where you start by picking a few things in your life that you either want do better at or stop doing or just things that will help you become more Christ like. So you do a prayer at the beginning about the things you have picked and ask Heavenly Father for help. Then you focus on doing those things and each day you pray and check your progress to see how you are doing. Anyways I decided to start my 40 day fast now so that I will continue to do the things and finish up my 40 day fast after I return home. It has helped a lot and I am sure it will help me with the transition once I am home.

I really saw the importance of keeping the Word of Wisdom this week, things that I thought were no big at home I have realized are an issue and I have seen members have problems and issues with. Also this past week I saw with absolute clarity the importance of keeping the commandments so that we can be happy!

We did a lot of work and taught a lot of lessons, it was a very productive week. We helped get Kaiane, Ayane, and Amanda ready for baptism. Honestly seeing Kaiane, Ayane and Amanda get baptized was awesome they were soo happy. Also almost all of them shared their testimonies on Sunday and it was great to see them up there. Seeing that we are all children of God and that Jesus Christ really does love us a ton! It is awesome to see how the gospel is being shared, E. Cardenas and E Franca taught and baptized the moms of the girls that got baptized. We taught their daughters, and now we are teaching their sister and her nephew and they brought their friend and her son to church.

So awhile back I planned a trip for all of us that came out at the same time, (Elder Keller, Blanchard, Bergquist and I along with E. Stahn) to go and get our visas updated. It was awesome, we had a great time. We laughed a lot and it was a fun time for sure I can’t believe we are all ending! Craziness! But we all enjoyed it for sure! We realized that we are going to be some awkward RMs (returned missionaries). For example I said Moses 3:19 and not Mosiah 3:19 because I translated it wrong and all 5 of us started laughing really hard, and then we realized we were laughing at a scripture joke and started laughing even more... #Weirdos #AwkwardRMs for sure. It was such a funny moment though.

It was a good week! A lot of emotions, but it was great! I want to be constantly growing in my testimony!

So some really awesome spiritual moments this week was when President talked about D&C 58:16 during our training in Zone Conference and we also watched Missionary Work and the Atonement, it was a lot of de ja vu moment! It reminded me of the beginning of my mission. We also had a great zone conference with “Rocky” about breaking Myths, it was awesome and super funny!

There are a lot of funny moments on the mission and a lot of them happened this week, I am glad I have these audio journals so I can go back and remember all of these great times.

I Love you guys a TON HAVE A HAPPY 4th of July. Have a great week,
Tchau!
I am loving this area. The members here are great they are super willing to help in the work and they are super nice. I wish I could have served here for a lot longer it is super awesome! We are teaching a lot in this area, it is way cool to always be teaching.

So on Monday we had a Family Home Evening with Daiane and Iascara they are recent converts, we are teaching their children Kiane, Ayane and Amanda. They are going to get baptized this week. We taught them about the plan of salvation. Then they taught us in another FHE, they did everything. We had some other great lessons on Tuesday and Wednesday. We also meet with Brian, and we let him teach us lessons about the Gospel of Jesus Christ, he is an awesome kid that is only 14 but is preparing to go on a mission.

The Bishop here Bispo Lopes, he is a GREAT Bishop! I have learned a lot from him in the short time we have been here. The ward reminds me so much of wards back home. They really all work together and help each other out. This week we had ward conference and it was really awesome, you can tell the leaders work really hard to make sure it was amazing, the choir was awesome, the talks and lessons were really spiritual. The building is not huge and it was jammed pack with members.

One thing I have definitely learned on the mission is doing all of the little things. If we pray, read scriptures, pay tithing, go to the temple, then we will be blessed and our life will be good. I also know that we need to study the scriptures daily, which will bless us and help us keep the commandments.

I am loving it here, I am finishing strong and working hard!
I can't wait to see you guys!
Love you all have a great week!
The ward is awesome! It is definitely moving quickly into the top 3 areas of my mission. We have taught a lot of lessons. Elder França loves to teach so it has been good for me to watch him more and try to simplify and intensify my speaking at times. I am learning a lot with him. He is an awesome missionary. The other guys are way cool as well we have had some really cool conversations about things. So we have been teaching Kiane, Aiane, and Amanda, they will be getting baptized on the 27th. We have quite a few others with a lot of potential that we have also been teaching.

On Monday we had an FHE with some families in the ward, it was good. Tuesday we taught some new members some more lessons, or should I say we had them teach us what they know about different topics. We have been teaching the family members of some recent converts, so we have had some good lessons. We are working hard and having good success. We taught a lot of people this week. We taught some more lessons on Thursday and Friday. Everybody is progressing really well. I love feeling the spirit so much in a lot of our lessons. I want to make sure when I get home that I continue to do the things here on the mission so I can have the constant companionship of the spirit. On Wednesday we went out with the Bishop, counselors, and ward mission leaders. It was awesome we visited 6 people in 3 hours and taught some awesome lessons. But they were great and it just showed me how productive we can be when we plan and do the things the Lord wants us to do.

In our zone meeting I taught about consecrating all of our time and energy to the Lord. I had the missionaries do a little activity that I borrowed called “Pushup for Donuts” . It was good, and I think it helped us understand better why we are out here on the mission.

I have been studying a lot in scriptures about the sacrament and the symbolisms of the sacrament. There is a lot there that I never really understood before. How truly important it is to partake of the sacrament each week and to remember why we come to church and what our Savior truly did for us. That is the true reason we we come to church!

I love you Justin have a great time at EFY and remember to truly go to EFY searching for a spiritual experience and a question in mind and I have NO DOUBT that you WILL RECEIVE an ANSWER by the end of the week. Justin seek to have spiritual opportunities and always have something to write with to remember those moments! I love you man!

I love you so much DAD hope you had a wonderful Father's Day, and that you have an amazing BIRTHDAY! I am eternally grateful for Heavenly Father who gave me to you to be my dad and teach me and give me such a great example to follow. I love you so much! These 2 talks always remind me of you. :)
This week went by super fast. It is nice being able to just focus on the work and not have to worry about anything else. This area is awesome, it is very diverse with some really rich areas and other areas that are not as wealthy. The ward is really cool it is great it’s a big fun ward! The Bishop is awesome, he is a great man and really understands the Lord and why we are here. In the short time I have met him he has already made on impact on me here on the mission. We have been teaching the daughters of the new members that E. Cardenas and E. França baptized last week. They are doing good and have a date set for the 25th if everything goes well. They also gave us a reference to one of their sisters and her son that we are teaching as well. We also have a less active and his friend, he has been coming back to church and bringing his friend, so it is awesome. They even had us over to eat lunch the other day.

A little more on E. França, he is from Vitória da Conquista which is in the state of Bahia. He is in my group, but since he is Brazilian I didn’t really get to meet him much in the MTC. He also goes home a month later because he doesn’t have to worry about Visa. He is a great teacher and we work well together. Elder Ferriera is the DL of our house, he was trained by Elder Choate, who I trained. It has been a long time since I have been out all day proselyting and I LOVE IT! I have forgotten some of the things we did that were successful so I am trying to get back to it, what I love is this area the members help out a lot! They also feed us very well in this area! I thought I was going to lose weight this last transfer, I guess not. They are awesome about feeding us, so I am excited to be eating lunch with the members again and building those relations with them.

So yesterday at church an awesome thing happened, the first place I had lunch with a member here on the mission in Criciuma was at church, Paolo e Isidora, they were visiting her dad, who is in the stake presidency here in Florianopolis, the guy is awesome. It was so cool to see them again and talk to them, they couldn’t believe I was on my last area of the mission.

It is eye opening to be out in the field all day, I feel like I was missing a lot from being in the office. I have been just observing a lot and seeing what they are doing how the work is going. It is getting really cold here, and it is not even winter. They say it is the coldest winter they have had in awhile. It is nice though, just a long sleeve and a sweater.

Happy Fathers Day DAD! I love you!

Next Monday is your birthday you old man!
I love you guys so much!
Well I get two Pdays this week since I am being transferred out of the office (Saturday and Monday). You guessed it right mom, I am going to Jardim Atlântico. I am going to serve with Elder França he is from Bahia, Brazil (I am taking Elder Cárdenas spot). Elder França is from my group, but he goes home one transfer after me. The other Elders in apartment are Elder Ferreira from Sao Paulo who is my grandson haha Elder Choate trained him. His companion is Elder Miranda who is also from Sao Paulo. Elder França has been practicing english and Elder Ferreira lived in the states for some time and knows english! So it should be a way fun transfer! I am really happy to get to this area, the ward is one of the best in the stake and a lot more of a family. They all like to help out with the missionary work. Elder Cárdenas did great here and worked his butt off so I am going to have big shoes to fill but I am really excited! Honestly I am excited to get out and work and truly simplify my duties on this last transfer. It stinks that Elder Cárdenas who I lived with for more then a year is going home and then I am no longer living with E. Keller who I lived with for 10 months, but I am excited though!

So Marcellus wasn’t able to go to church last week, so we moved his baptism to the 11th and Eliani is still progressing toward the 18th. Marcellus is doing great, he is living all of the commandments and doing everything he needs to do. He has great faith, we taught him to about the Sabbath day, he feels so bad that wasn’t able to go to church, but now understands how important it is to go to church. We have been teaching a bunch of other families that are progressing, that I am sad to leave. We have been working a lot with members this week, which is awesome for this area. It was a crazy week that went by really quick with getting everything ready for transfers. I am excited that Elder Aidukaitis is coming to the mission and we are having a conference with him before I leave.

So today being my last Pday in the office we ate lunch at Roseli, Amanda, and Lizzy house today because it was Elder Stahns Bday this week and because Elder Sarenz is going home and I am getting transferred. This week E. Stahn did everything in the office by himself, he dominated, so there is no need for me to be here any longer.

So from what I have heard the ward is super strong here in Jardim Atlantico and help the missionaries a ton, which makes me super happy. So Elder Cardenas and Elder França had 2 baptism on Saturday, but just baptized 2 moms for some reason. There are 3 children and a sister of one of the ladies that was baptized that they were teaching, and they also have another man who is named Marcio and I am not sure who else.

Here are some awesome talks I read this week!
Honestly it's a little weird to see time going by so fast but I am loving it so I'm very happy. Elder Stahn and I are working good together, he is good in the office and is going to dominate! We did a bunch of visas for Elders and Sister, and he did most of the work on the visas. Okay so the Sisters of the zone made me and E. Keller some planners for the last transfer and they are hilarious with a bunch of tips to not be an awkward RM. All of the tips are either important things to do or things that awkward RM have done with them when they were at BYU hahaha super funny! Ex. Tip #8 If you make a date for Saturday with a girl, you don´t need to check-up every single day. hahaha . It was a weirdo RM that did that with one of the Sisters. We have some really awesome Sisters.

So we have been working really hard and teaching a lot. We had a goal of teaching 40 lessons and making 70 contacts. That is what President wants us to do each week. It is pretty hard to reach, but we kept it in the forefront and were able to reach it. if you could pray for the following I would really appreciate it; Pray for Marcellus, Eliani, Edwardo, Renato, Paulo, Suellen, Anna Vitoria, Jose Maria, Aldacir, Urallen, Rosi, Sameli, Alice, Leticia, Tanya, Pamela, Fabio, Vanda, Elilson, Nayana, Niesa That all can truly receive an answer from their prayers. We found a lot of new families to teach this week so it was honestly a great week, with a lot of blessings from our Heavenly Father. We went out with Irama Lizzy of the ward and it was super awesome we taught like 4 lessons in a couple of hours. It was truly amazing. We went and visited Aldacir, and he did a lot of investigation of the church, he went online and watched a bunch of videos and looked up a bunch of stuff, he definitely wants to learn a lot more. He came to church on Sunday and was excited. We taught Eduardo, he is a super smart guy, I would describe him of like the “Ken” of “Ken and Barby” of Brazil. He is just a big buff guy with good looks who is super intelligent. He is in real estate, technology, and a bunch of other businesses. In fact we found out he is Mr Brazil, so it was cool, but he said it so nonchalant. Anyways we taught him about the Book of Mormon and he said he would read a pray about the Book of Mormon to find out if it is true. We also had an awesome lesson with Renato. He is a man that has extreme knowledge about God and the scriptures, and it was great teaching him, because he knew all about the Plan of Salvation even before we started to teach him. Hopefully he follows the promptings of the Holy Ghost as he reads and studies and prays.

I really liked dad’s email about the 5 parables of rain. Number 3 “Into Every Life A Little Rain Must Fall” - The rain, the floods, and the winds beat not only upon the house which had been built upon the sand, but also upon the other house, which had been built upon the rock. Both the person who serves the Lord as well as the one who disdains Him live in a world ruled by the same laws of nature. Physical suffering is not evidence of wickedness, nor is it punishment for sin. We will all be tested and have trials, but like the scriptures say if your house is built upon a solid foundation then you will make it through the trials. Because without rain there wouldn’t be rainbows! The last few weeks we were really having lots of success and we were not having any problems finding people. I am grateful for the time were we did get told by a family with their pastor in the room, that they would not be going to our church this week. This event let me reflect on how blessed we have been these last few weeks.

Oh so you asked about the Zika virus and mosquitos, so we really don’t have any problem with mosquitos, if you use long pants you won’t get bitten on the legs. If you use long clothing then your good.

Besos!
I am doing good though!

Today on Pday we went and taught Marcellus with Irmao Aresene and Keller and Salomão and their investigators. It was awesome. We have been trying to help him get his answer to know that this is God's church here on the earth. He has a lot of faith and believes that it is, but has never prayed to have a certainty. We also have been teaching Eliani. We have been teaching her and she said she knows God sent us to her because she has been searching for a church. She also has a lot of faith that this is Christ church but lacks the certainty as well, but her baptism is marked for the 4th of June. We have been working like crazy to find the elect and love them enough to invite them to get baptized in Christ church and it is amazing how the Lord has blessed us! This week we have already found 8 people! When we ask we asks for his help he will answer our prayers but we have to go after it as well to demonstrate our faith as well!

Honestly the work has been amazing these past 3 weeks, all the missionaries in the district have been working hard and many miracles have been happening. I am amazed at how real the Lord is when we have faith and works together!

The one thing that has been the same the entire mission has been that when you feel that I everything is clicking at all cylinders, then it’s time to go learn the next thing. That is one of the big things I have learned we need to constantly need to be getting out of comfort zone. I learned it with a parable a sister missionary shared. So when we work out we try to get stronger, so we lift a weight and do reps, but after time that weight gets really easy and we start to plateau, so we add more weight. With this new weight we may feel like we are not doing as many reps but we know we are growing a lot more. We work out as hard as we can to do as many reps as possible with this new weight. We do however come to a point where no longer have enough strength to do a full rep that is where a spotter comes in. And a good spotter, is one that when you work out, you go up as far as you can and the spotter gives just enough help for you to do that extra rep, and then you do the next and you do as much as you can and then the spotter gives the needed help to finish the rep and so on. Never does a good spotter do the entire lift for you. He lets you lift as much as you can and only gives a little help necessary to finish the rest of it. Heavenly Father is a loving Father who wants to see each one of us progress and grow. We cannot be satisfied doing a 10000 reps with a 2lb weight, he will slowly add the weight on to help us grow and progress in our mortal lives so that we can too one day become like he is. Yes there will be times when we may feel like we cannot get the next rep, but we have the best spotter in the world who knows exactly our strength and to what point we can lift it and where He needs to enter in to help us lift the rest. He will never let the weight slam down on us. I know that we need to realize that to grow we need to get out of comfort zone. One of my favorite quotes is; There is no growth in a comfort zone, and there is no comfort in a growth zone!

Please read this talk I love this one. One of Hollands best

Word of the week picareta = pickaxe

So I truly have learned we need to love people more and invite them to come unto Christ. I am so greatly for you guys always paying tithing and knowing that when we pay than we are blest. I know that this is a promise from our Heavenly Father who love us so much. God always is teaching us. Search to see what he can be teaching each one of you.

Justin I want you to know that I love you a lot man and I love hearing from you and how you are doing. And make sure to work hard in school I am not sure if you already finished or are about to but finish off strong. I love you a lot man, and can't wait to see you again! You're going to probably be like 3 times bigger than me. But we are going to work hard together! I love you tons man! Always remember you got me here when you need me.

Remember how much love I have for you guys. And always work to find the Lord's hand in your life daily at the beginning it may seem hard, but I have started doing this for awhile and it is such an awesome experience now I see His hand so clearly in my day to day life.

I love you guys and I know that when we all learn together we will be an eternal family. Remember we are all working together to become an eternal family! Please make sure you are doing family and personal prayer, Pray for the families we are teaching. Also plan to go to the temple and do the little things and search for missionary opportunities.
I am super happy right now, I love the mission and working with people and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. I love studying the scriptures every day and having that time to ponder about everything. I LOVE this place, it is honestly the greatest time of my life, the mission is divertido, I just love it! So we continue to work hard and have made it a goal to find a new person to teach each day. So over these past five days we have seen a miracle and the Lord has shown his hand super in the work and we have found 11 new people we are teaching. Elder Stahn has learned everything, now we are just basically reviewing things we do in the office. We kicked butt again and got a bunch more visas done. We are just filling in the cracks of little things we do in the office.

One of the biggest things I have learned on my mission is the importance of planning and preparing. I want to make sure I keep all these habits when I return home, I don’t want to fall back into bad habits. Everyday when I talk to you I go back to my planner and look at what we had plan and what we did.

We found a family we were teaching and it was awesome to see that they are progressing well, they are reading the Book of Mormon, they came to church, it was awesome to see them progress. They went to the ward activity it is was good. Then on Wednesday we had a FHE with Paulo and Suellen and Daniel and Leilane, we talked about putting your priorities, it was a good lesson. I used the example of putting food in a container, oranges, macaroni, and rice. I liked the talk by Dallin H Oaks, “Good, Better, Best”. It helps us to remember how we should be prioritizing things in our life, and looking for the best thing. We have continued to teach Marcellus and he is doing great. He truly got the importance of the part of this being Christ's church on the earth today. With the Authority to baptize people. He understands the restoration of the Church. He has a desire to be baptized.

So today on Pday we went up to the Morro da Cruz again with the new group of office Elders because almost everyone is new so that was really fun. And the miracle of the day was we got to the bus station to grab a bus to go to the Morro Da Cruz. When we got to the top of the hill it was sprinkling, then like 2 minutes later it stopped and it was beautiful. We took a bunch of cool pictures and had some fun up there, then we went to go catch the bus back down and we didn’t know when the next one was going to come (Sometimes they are like 45 minutes apart) anyways we literally waited like 1 minute and the bus arrived, it was super awesome!

Thanks Dad for sharing that part of the talk about understanding God’s for for us and the resurrection, where did you get it from. That totally helped me understand the principle of LOVE. GOD has sooooooo much LOVE for us. I really need to study more the importance of charity! That is going to be a big key in my life. I love you all a tons. The gospel is simple and life changing. It works by doing small and simple things. This is Christ's church. The proof of that is the Book of Mormon. I know that the Trinity is real, God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost! ALMA 36:6-7

A really cool parable I found about TIME!

Imagine there is a bank account that credits your account each morning with $86,400. It carries over no balance from day to day.
Every evening the bank deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to use during the day. What would you do? Draw out every cent, of course?
Each of us has such a bank. It's name is TIME.
Every morning, it credits you with 86,400 seconds.
Every night it writes off as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest to a good purpose.
It carries over no balance. It allows no overdraft. Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the remains of the day.
If you fail to use the day's deposits, the loss is yours. There is no drawing against "tomorrow."
You must live in the present on today's deposits. Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness and success!
The clock is running!! Make the most of today.

To realise the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who failed a grade.
To realise the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who has given birth to a premature baby.
To realise the value of ONE WEEK, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper.
To realise the value of ONE HOUR, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.
To realise the value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who just missed a train.
To realise the value of ONE SECOND, ask someone who just avoided an accident.
To realise the value of ONE MILLISECOND, ask the person who won a silver medal at the Olympics.

Treasure every moment that you have! And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time with. And remember time waits for no one.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.

Justin BEAST IT UP YOU THE MAN DO WORK MAN! YOU DA MAN!

Love you guys, you are the best! Remember to do the small things.

So this was another great week here in Florianopolis. It went by really fast, I can’t believe it has already been two weeks since the last transfer. We are tearing it up in the office, Elder Stahn is learning so quickly. We did 5 visas this week, they really like us over there now and they help us out a ton. We are honestly finding constantly! We found a bunch of new people/families to teach this week. Our goal has been to find at least one person per day, and the Lord is really blessing us with finding people to teach. It is awesome, and we are always inviting them to baptism on the first time teaching them and it is ridiculous how the Lord is showing His hand in our work so clearly in helping us find people and them accepting our commitments! Mark 10:21 Jesus loved the young man and asked the him to sell everything and come follow him. When we teach someone and we love them we can’t be scared, we just need to have the same love Jesus had and be bold and invite them to come follow Jesus. I learned a ton this week it was awesome! What is the true meaning of loving someone, it is not trying to sugar coat things so you think it won’t hurt them, but be bold and love them enough to invite them. Honestly I am having a blast and working my butt off, I am enjoying the mission, and the work is going great!

Another thing I learned this week is getting out of our comfort zone. Elder Bednard talked about the scripture in Matthew 14:22-31, where Peter stepped out of the boat responding fervently and immediately to the Savior’s invitation. With his eyes fixed upon Jesus, he stepped out of the boat and miraculously walked on the water. Only when his gaze was diverted by the wind and the waves did he become afraid and begin to sink. We can be blessed to conquer our fears and strengthen our faith as we follow the Lord’s instruction: “Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not” (D&C 6:36). As we have came across people who before I would have never approached, I decided to step out of the boat and get out of my comfort zone and trust in the Lord, and all I can say is WOW, we have been able to go and teach people I would have never thought to ever invite.

So the other day we were teaching a young man, Elias, well we thought it was over because his uncle didn’t want us coming over to teach him anymore, but he told us he would come to the church on Thursday at 3 to be taught. Well after 3 had come and past, I figured it was over with him, but a little while later at 3:30 as we were working in the office a lady who was cleaning the church came over and told us a young man was waiting for us. We went and taught him the plan of salvation and used the parable of the “House and the School”. It went great, then we asked him to come to church, and he wants to come really bad but his uncle is being a hindrance in him being able to do anything.

So dad when you were talking in the audio on being super overwhelmed I thought of two things. The first was actually in a FHE yesterday we talked about the importance of time and one of the Irmas in the ward was talking about that. How her life was getting super busy and she was feeling overwhelmed, or overladen and then she decided to wake up more early to study the scripture and more frequent prayer. The other thought I thought about was a quote I learned from Elder Stahn. "When you feel like you are drowning in the waves of life, remember that your lifeguard knows how to walk on water"

Justin I hope you had a fun time at prom!

Mom I love you a ton, when I get home we are going to have to go the temple a lot okay!

I love you all a ton, if you have any more questions then you can ask them tomorrow! I can't believe tomorrow is the last time I will be skyping you guys on the mission. It has gone by super quick. I can't believe it!

See you tomorrow,
Love,
Kind of chaotic and hectic at times, but overall a very successful week. It is finally getting cold here in Floripa. I am loving the weather right now! We are still getting the house together, furniture is being delivered and installed. Everything is getting into place, today should be the last day to put together everything and organize the place, certinho. It is a nice place and super close to the office.

Tuesday was the Chaotic crazy day with Elders and Sisters heading home. One flight was canceled, so we had to switch flights at the last minute. Another Elder had a few issues with connecting flights but it was find in the end. Then another Elder heading to El Salvador got “lost” in the Sao Paulo airport, so we worked with his family and our travel agency there in Sao Paulo to make changes to his flight and find him in the airport. It was a crazy morning, lots of phone calls, lots of changes to flights, but in the end everything worked out and everybody got home.

So Elder Stahn is awesome and we are getting along super well and totally killing it in the office and doing the work outside the office. He is from Idaho Falls, Idaho, he played football and did dance. He is learning the office job quickly and allowing us to get out to do work. We have been finding some great investigators with loads of potential and are doing great with that. Also the people we already are teaching are progressing very well! It is awesome! Faith is the key to get anything! That is what I have been learning a ton we need to have faith and just run behind it and the Lord will help us get it. It’s super simple!
1. Ask with Faith to God
2. Run behind what you asked for and get out of your comfort zone
3. It Happens!!!!!!!!!
The work is going awesome, in fact we have a ton of appointments today so we are going to cut Pday short to be able to visit everyone. We have been also trying to get out of our comfort zone this week and we walked "7 steps" out of our comfort zone and found this huge family that all accepted to be baptized. Also Urallen and Rosi said they will get baptized (just have to get married first). Also Marcellus said he wants to get baptized. It was an awesome week!

So the new word I learned this week was altruista = selfless. Still learning every week. So the funny thing that happened this week happened on Friday. Good thing I learned and got in the habit to take showers in the night time, because this didn’t happen to me, but everybody else in the house. So on Friday morning before the district meeting the power went out and Elder Keller, Salomão and Stahn had to take showers with cold water. They were all working out before hand so they would be all hot and sweaty before they jumped in the cold shower. Elder Stahn was singing “Eye of the Tiger” before he turned on the water and when he turned on the water he stopped singing immediately, it was super funny we all died laughing.

Dile a tía Mari Fe Feliz Cumpleaños de mi parte! Dile que la amo y echo de menos a todas ellos.

I can’t wait to talk and see all of you in a week. Let’s plan on doing hangouts at 3 pm Floripa time. I am so excited!

So, I honestly don't know how life is on a day to day basis at home, but during these two years here the weekly emails are always interesting. It is kinda like reading the Book of Mormon, with a family that has its high and lows. I can imagine it being close to the end of the school year, work, sports, and the business of things day to day can be stressful. But if there is one thing I have learned during my time on the mission that I truly want to apply when I get home is the importance of doing the little things. I wrote a talk that I used on the importance of doing the little things. When you study the Book of Mormon it totally shows the importance of doing the little things and how when the people did the little things that they were blessed! Keeping the commandments, praying, scripture study, church, temple, hard work, charity, patience, those were the things that made the Nephites flourish at the beginning of the BOM and that is what can make our family flourish. I can see on the mission when I am paying attention to the small details my days run a lot smoother, without so much turbulence. I love Pres. Uchtdorf's talk on the importance of keeping and living the Gospel in a simple way. Remember to always smile because 2 Nephi 39:9 (The scripture I have been pondering this week. Spiritually Minded Is Life Eternal, while physically minded is death.

Always smile and remember how many blessings the Lord has given us and that we live in an amazing country where the church is strong and we live very comfortable lives. We have the true gospel of Jesus Christ, with the knowledge and certainty of many questions that others fear or do not even want to take the time to think about. We have a family that is sealed in the temple. We have a Savior who loves us very much, who suffered all the pains we will ever face and is there to help us every step of the way. We have a Heavenly Father who really does loves us and gives us so much.

I am so grateful for my awesome family, remember to always do the little things!

Love you tchau!
I love you sooooo much! Thank you for everything you have taught me. I hope and pray that I am blessed with a wife as good as you are! Thank you so much for your example and all the advice you have given me before and out here on the mission. Thank you for always teaching me the importance of loving people and focusing on people not just numbers. You are the best, I love you!

So this week was going great with missionary work, until we had to take a couple of days (Thursday and Friday) to move into our new home. We are now in a house that is literally 1 minute walking on your hands to the office. We are on the same street just 5 houses down. We are pretty much moved in but we are still ironing out the wrinkles, but it is good. There will be eight of us living there, I am excited that the E. Keller and Salomão will be living with us. It should really help spark the ward and missionary work.

So Urallen, Rosi, Samele and Alice are doing great! They came to church on Sunday and loved it. We visited them with members this week and it was really good. Rosi reads everything we leave with her. Urallen it's a little harder for him to read, but he has a memory that is ridiculous he completely understood the Restoration of the Priesthood, Joseph Smith, and the importance of prophets. They are awesome! He is a security guard at an apartment and works from 7pm to 7 am and it’s every other day. He still made it to sure even though he worked all night. Is works again today, but said he is going to work hard to be at church again! They are great. Paulo and Suellen and Anna Vitoria are doing good, we talked this week about the importance of having goals and temple marriage. They are doing good. We are going to try and have a FHE with Daniel and Leilane tomorrow. Magno, Niza,Enzo, Nadia, Nida, and Luis are doing great. We are going to work hard to get them to church tomorrow. We have a lot of other families we are teaching and we have worked hard to find a new investigator per day. It has been a great experience! The Lord has definitely blessed us with finding great families.

Yesterday at the District meeting I dressed up as a "Gator", because E. Betts told me in the states the missionaries give investigators the term gators. We talked about how a gator doesn't move unless it has a motive and if we are like the crocodile hunter and find them and poke them (invite them) then they will move and progress. It was super embarrassing but YOLO, all the missionaries liked it and it got the point across, so that's what is important.

Mom please tell Yayo and Yaya how much I love them and how grateful I am que ellos me ayudaron estar aquí en el mission. I love them sooo much!

So transfers are on Monday, and President is sending me out to Prato Branco. Haha just kidding, So I am staying here and I am going to train Elder Stahn! He is from Idaho super cool guy. E. Keller knew him in Chapecó at the beginning of the mission and said he is a cool so that will be awesome! I am sad Elder Cárdenas is leaving, however he is going to be my ZL in Jardim Atlantico, so he is close by and I will still see him a ton. It's crazy I have been living/serving with him for more than 1 year! Crazy stuff! He is such a an awesome Elder and I am going to miss him. Elder Sierras and Elder Mendes are going to be companions, Elder Sáenz is going to train Elder Machin an Elder from Uruguay. Elder Keller and Elder Salomão will stay together! It's going to be 8 in the house! Super crazy and lots of fun!

I am excited to work with Elder Stahn, we are going to work super hard, he seems super cool so I am stoked! I don't know if I will stay here for the 2 transfers that I have left or go somewhere near on the last one. We will see?

So one thing I really enjoyed studying this week was that our principal 2 purposes as missionaries is prepare to have the spirit present in teaching and invite the investigator to follow commitments! So that was really good and it makes it a lot simpler.

The new word I learned this week was Broca = Drill!

Dad thanks for sending me the info on the NFL draft. I feel so out of it, but it feels great! Oh and when did this Los Angeles Rams thing happen, what happened to St. Louis????

Well got to go, busy day today, since we didn’t get much missionary work done the last two days because of moving.

Do the little things to improve each day!
Families are forever!

Love you all,
There are 12 missionaries leaving this transfer (10 Elders and 2 Sisters) and only 2 sisters coming. So that means 5 areas where missionaries are will be closing or become part of another companionship's area. I am a little sad, because Elder Cardenas might be leaving, I have loved being his companion for so long.

We are still going to the LAN house on P-Days to email you, since they are doing work in the office on Saturdays. We are doing a good job of getting stuff done in the office so we can get out and work. I have the visa stuff down now, and I get all of my stuff done quickly so I can help out the other Elders in the office so we can get out sooner.

We are also finishing up looking for a place to move to so the APs can move in with us and we will have room for Elders that are coming to Floripa. It looks like we are going to move to a house like just down the road from the office. We are going to move sometime between Tuesday and Thursday. I really like the place we are at, it is really nice amazing views of the bridge and the ocean, but in the new house we will have a lot more space and it is closer to the office. We will lose the amazing views, but it's all good. I'm also excited to move into the new house and have E. Keller and E. Salomão with us, it's going to be fun for sure!

So this week we have been working hard to find new families, and it is super awesome. Last week we found 8 new families to teach and this week 6 so far. We are teaching Urellen and Rosi with Sameli and Alice. They are doing great they are going to church this week and Rosi said she read and felt the peace and happiness! Magno and Neuza with Enzo, we are going to teach them today! They researched a little and have a lot of potential with great questions. Neuza talked about after we had left her and her mom, she felt a calmness and happiness so that was awesome for them to recognize the spirit! We keep working to find new families and every time we ask in our prayers the Lord truly answers them! We had a mini division yesterday and Elder Cárdenas and Elder Mendes found this super cool family from Rio Grande do Sul and they have a little son too and were super receptive and nice! So we just gotta keep praying and searching and knocking (Matthew 7:7-8). Justin here is a math problem for you with the answer and the key thing I have learned here on the mission is that you need to be constantly trying to find new families to teach. The more you find, the more probability you have to teach, the more you teach the more probability you have to baptize.

I have been trying to come up with modern parables, I love it, it is awesome way to teach. I have been reading The Parables by James E. Talmage, they are awesome. Please read them.

The mission is such an awesome time. It is such a blessing to have our mission president so close and get to talk to him almost every day about anything, it is pretty cool and a big time blessing! It is amazing how true it is that when we ask for something that is in line with the will of God how he will ALWAYS give it to us. Also how true this church is. One thing I was talking about with President is that sometimes we have to look at the difference in things to see which one is better and the difference that our church has like Eternal Families, Book of Mormon, Temple Baptism, Plan of Salvation, our view on the Fall, Prophets and Apostles are so amazing and help us know which is the Christ's church on the earth!

I know I have a lot of work still to do here, but thanks for sending me the quote dad.
"You will shed more tears when you leave to go home than you shed when you left home to come here." - Gordon B. Hinckley

I look at it and I feel I am being pulled, on one side I am so excited to see you guys, but at the same time the Mission is such an awesome time and I don’t want it to ever end!

Keep praying for us to find families and for you guys to have missionary opportunities!
Remember to do the little things, go to the Temple this week! Read the Book of Mormon Daily!

Families are Eternal!!
They are doing work on the office, so we are at a LAN writing and the computers don’t work as good. Plus we are going to eat lunch with Paulo and Suellen and Anna Vitoria right now, so I am going to have to hurry up. So transfers on Monday went smoothly, I am not training anyone. I can’t believe I only have three more left. Definitely need to make the most of them! I have been really working out, but we ate lanche Hamburgers both on Wednesday and Thursday night… super good but super fat! So the ward is really helping with Paulo and Suellen’s wedding, it is going to be amazing! . Irma Roseangela did great! She has a wedding dress store and let her use a dress and Paulo has a really nice suit. They also helped with the cake, and the ward is going to make dinner it is going to be awesome. We won't be able to go to the wedding actually, President said we weren't able to awhile back and last week ELder Zwick talked about that and the new focus with missionaries is teach not social activities but focus on teaching people. So it’s a little bit of a bummer to not be at the wedding, but we are going to go out and eat lunch with them today!

The work is going good and we have a few potentials for this next week. The one family that had a lot of potential weren't home when we stopped by this week, so we will have to keep finding more. Irmao Campos and Valda we had a lesson with them and their neighbor who is this older catholic lady who is really nice, so we will see how it goes. But we are excited to start working with the friends of Paulo and Suellen!

So not sure when we are moving, the one apartment is ready but we actually might move to this house that is like 20 seconds from the church so I am not sure because the house won’t be ready till mid April.

It really hit me yesterday that the mission is coming to an end as I started to buy the tickets for the missionaries that go home with me! Super weird! I can't believe it's flying by so fast!

Last Saturday to me was a really big eye opener on the importance of the sacrament. Elder Zwick was telling us that since he was called as a Seventy, they are always traveling to preside over Stake Conferences and many times because of that do not get the sacrament. Only once a month, the 1st Thursday of each month all the Apostles and 70s who were traveling meet together and have a 3 hour meeting and bless and pass the sacrament. You couldn't believe the happiness in his countenance while he was saying he was going to be in Campinas next Sunday and would be able to partake of the sacrament there! You could tell it was something he cherishes very much and was so happy to be able to partake of it more than one time during the month. As I reflected on that, I saw in myself how many times I have not truly prepared before and had spiritual experiences during the sacrament because I was focused on other things in the world, like what I am going to eat when I get home, homework, the past week and the fun things I did etc. etc. When during those same times a special witness of God was desiring to have the opportunity to testify to me. I read a talk recently by Elder Holland and a scripture he shared, that when I read it stuck me in the soul. In Matthew 26:40 it says
And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
That invitation is the Lord invitation each week to us as we go to sacrament meeting to truly be sanctified. And not have the Lord say to us "Could ye not watch with me one hour?" I learned a big lesson that day with Elder Zwick on the importance of the sacrament and to truly yearn for and prepare for that moment each week! I am grateful for baptism and the sacrament to be able to constantly "Remember Him"

I love the Gospel, I love being a missionary and being able to share this message with others.

I love you all so much, do the little things, always serve one another!
It has been another busy week in the office this week with visas and planning travel plans for the mission tour, and getting things ready for transfers in the upcoming weeks. Even with all the work we have been making it a goal to get out of the office as soon as possible to do work. One quick funny story, was we went to buy some umbrellas for the office, and as we came out of the store it was raining, so I opened up the umbrella and we started walking. We didn’t get very far and it bent from the wind, so we went back to the store and returned it.

Sunday was good, the ward is helping out with missionary work, and helping us bring back the less actives. We had Paulo, Suellen and Vitoria at church along with some others. Things are going good for them and the ward is really helping out with their wedding plans. There are a bunch of Irmas (Sisters) in the ward that are really helping a lot with the wedding, it is great how they are all helping out and are excited for them. We had a really spiritual lesson with them on Thursday at a members house. It was great, I love that family and I am very excited for them.

This week wasn’t that good with visits or contacts. Most of our planned appointments for visits didn’t work out, and the contacts we did weren’t very promising this week. But I have realized that it is our job to just get out there and try to share the message with everyone, they still have the agency to decide if they want to listen to it or not. We did visit a family that their son was baptized about 6 years ago, although they are going through some difficult times right now, they do want to hear more.

Today I had an epiphany and realized it's time for March Madness, wow, I can’t believe it is that time of year. Next year it’s going to be fun for sure to watch and get back into picking the underdogs! What a super exciting time! How’s the bracket shaping up to be? Are there any good underdogs this year, hahaha. NIU or Gonzaga's or George Washington or Butlers?

I wanted to write to any young man and woman who are thinking about preparing to serve a mission! I want to say it’s the best thing that has happened to me! Read Alma 37:6-7. These two verses are probably my favorite scriptures ever. For example we did a small act of helping place a sugar cane (caldo de cana) cart into a parking place and now we have a family that has the goals to get married and be baptized, yes there are trials and Satan always loves to sneak in and try to destroy things. I found some really good quotes from a guy, Vance Havner, who talks about this.

It takes broken soil to produce a crop, broken clouds to give rain, broken grain to give bread, broken bread to give strength. It is the broken alabaster box that gives forth perfume. . . . it is Peter, weeping bitterly, who returns to greater power than ever. [“Broken Things,” an excerpt from Vance Havner]

“Taking it easy is often the prelude to backsliding. Comfort precedes collapse.” This quote explains perfectly what it means on always doing the little things and being diligent

I love you a ton be diligent read the talk by Elder Christofferson and Elder Lawrence they are great.

Love you all very much,
So another week has came and gone. It went by really quick. The office this week was pretty calm, just renewing visas and the usual. As far as the work goes, Paulo and Suellen signed the papers on Monday and the date of their wedding and Baptism is on 26 of MARCH!!!!!!!! It’s going to be AWESOME! Irma Leilane and Daniel are helping a ton! They have been planning out how to do the wedding! They have also been reading the scriptures everyday since we taught them the importance of daily scripture study. I actually used the parable of the truck driver (thank you dad for teaching me that one). I had actually shared it a while back to Elder Cardenas, and during the lesson, he was like E. Moore tell them about the truck driver. They liked it, it was awesome. They are such an awesome family, and today there was a baptism of child in the ward and Paulo and Ana Vitoria were there!

We have also been teaching Prisila, and she is reading the BOM and is either coming to church this week or the next. Cristiano and Marcia a cool family we have werent able to meet with us this week because a ton of things happened with them but hopefully next week we can visit them! We have been doing lots of contacts and are on the search for more families!

So the new word for the week that I learned is “Trichic”. Well so it's like a Gaucho (Rio Grande do Sul) thing they put Tri in front of a word to make it triple the importance. Like in English would be like Tricool or Triawkward something like that.

The funny story of the week happened at the office. Okay so here in the office there are 2 bathrooms, one for men and one for women. On Thursday when we got to the office I had to go to the bathroom really bad, and when I went to go in Elder Salomão was already in the men's bathroom. so I went into the women's, and just when I sat down I heard the mission president’s wife, Sister Silva, with some sisters outside that had just arrived in front of the office. I was like... -_______- so I went and "LET IT GOOOOOOOO, LET IT GOOOO, I couldn't hold it back anymore" "Just Let it go let it go" Hahaha. So then to my luck they came up and tried to go to the bathroom, but I locked it. So then after I finished, I used half a can of febreeze to make sure it didn't “smell bad". After I came out they realized it was me in there and I was like just say a prayer before you go in so you don't die, but it was all good, and we had a good laugh.

I have been study the importance of us having our own testimonies and how all the people of the scriptures had defining points on when they "knew". Also in Helaman 5 what the Nephites and Lamanites did to truly have success! That was really good to study together with the article from the Liahona in February.

I am really sorry Susi died. It would have been really nice to meet her. But we know she will have a chance to hear the messages up there and was being prepared right now with you guys! Way to go that is surely going to help

I am so grateful for you guys and the awesome example you guys were for me! :)
So I received my package last week, and I know you said to wait until valentine's day, but can I open my package today? So we had transfers last week, and everything went smoothly, nobody missed their bus, and I was able to do all the paperwork for the newbies, everything worked out! Which was good since Tuesday was a holiday because Carnival. So this transfer I have made it a goal to make sure all missionaries have a CPF which is like a social security number in Brazil. The other thing is I am getting all missionaries to sign this paper and get a seal thing on it saying that it is their signature, this will enable us here in the office to be able to go out and get stuff and do stuff for them. So things are going good in the office, I just want to really get as much stuff organized as possible so we can get out and meet members and investigators. So we all stayed the same here in the office, the only difference is that Elder Cardenas is going to train Elder Sierras to be the new financial secretary. The office is really clicking now, we work super hard and smart, but we always have lots of fun. We always goof around and joke around, for example Elder Sáenz always like to make fun of the Spain Spanish accents, or should I say my Spanish accent. Out is district is awesome, the APs are now in our district, so it's the office Elders and some of the sisters that are here on the island. We are looking for a new apartment so the APs will be living with us, and our apartment will be the mission apartment, where all of the Elders come and stay while here in Florianopolis. I am very excited for this transfer!

It has been Carnival this week, it is crazy, it is bizarre, weird, etc. We didn’t go out much, because the whole center of Florianopolis was like crazy with people and not in a good way. So Sunday our Haitian friend that we found last week that is a member, brought 3 friends with him to church. Member missionary work is easy if we just invite our friends. Our friend Fernando, is going through some really tough times. He is from Uruguay, he is away from his family, and just having a lot of issues, please pray for him. So this week we met with Paulo and Sueli a few times. Early in the week we met with them and they also are going through a lot of trials and issues. It was pretty intense, but we read with them and talked about the gospel. Later in the week we returned to see how they were doing, and the things were a lot better, there are still things they are overcoming, but you can see when we put God in our lives things get better. They are so awesome I love that family so much!! We also visited Priscilla, it was a really good visit, she is starting to understand the Book of Mormon and why we have it in conjunction with the bible.

One thing I learned this week, that I heard President say is “Once you have lost your liberty, you can only gain it back through blood, the atonement of Jesus Christ” Only through Christ can we gain back our Liberty. This teaching just really stood out for me this week, and I actually used it with some of our investigators.

We taught a lot of less actives, and what I learned from the missionary conference from a few weeks ago, was that a lot of times we need to teach less actives like investigators. So that is what we did, we taught them about the Plan of Salvation, I just love teaching this. The spirit is always strong when we talk about having a Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ, and why we came to earth. I just love it!

One thing I really learned and have taken to heart from this last conference was a message from Elder Redlund, about how we have to truly love those we serve. We have to look at them through the eyes of their parents, the eyes of Heavenly Father, and just love them for who they are, understand them, and just love and serve them with unconditional love.

Congratulations Justin, way to go man, way to beast it up. That is so awesome you took 3rd in the State. Keep working your butt off, I can’t wait to get home and work with you and see you next year beasting it up. I love you so much Bro.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST FAMILY EVER!

Thanks for the pics this week!

Love you guys! Read the scriptures! pray!
I have been trying to get more organized with the documents of foreigners, with their ID cards and CPF numbers and renewing visas! I am working my butt off and time just flies by, but everything in the office is getting organized. I even built a really good relationship with the people at the police station where we do Visa paperwork. The package you sent arrived on Tuesday, so I will wait until Valentine’s Day to open it. You guys did awesome on the package, it was super heavy but didn’t get taxed at all. Other packages that come here that don’t weigh even close get super taxed, so props to you for sending it correctly.

Dad, I just wanted to say thank you so much, that video you sent I will Prepare the Way about 1 Nephi 17:32, about the faith Nephi had in building a ship and how it applies to our lives and how we should follow the promptings in missionary work was awesome! Actually last Sunday for lunch during our lunch message I shared it with the family, and it was great! I had always liked that scripture, but I had never viewed the rest of the chapter in that way. The family that fed us are so nice, you can tell that they have a lot of love for the missionaries.

We have a new Elder here in the office Elder Salomão is Elder Keller’s new companion. He is going to help a lot with the work in the ward and bridging relationships. He is a a great missionary, he is 26 years old from Cape Verde. We have the best-est district in the whole mission! All of the office staff and the sisters from Rio Tavares. The last week we also had Elder Delaney here in the office helping out, he was companions with Elder Zamorano who finished up his mission and had to go home a few weeks early because of his visa expiring. Elder Delaney has helped out a ton with all of the preparations for transfers this coming week. Elder Sierras has taught me how to get packages out from the post office without having to pay the huge fines. So now I am in charge of that process and getting them to the missionaries. I have also been learning and helping Elder Cardenas with the reimbursement of things missionaries send into the office.

We have been teaching some awesome families, we taught Paulo and Sueli and Ana Vitoria (their little daughter that is super cute and sweet). They are awesome! We taught them all about the Book of Mormon, it was a really cool lesson and we had a member there with us. We went and picked them up on Sunday to go to church, and they really liked it. We have also been teaching Fernando, Prisila, Hector, Arsene and his friends. Arsene and his friends are Haitians, he is a member, he has been here in Floripa for about 5 months but didn’t know where the church was. They live on the mainland, but they are part of our ward, so they have to travel some distance and cross the bridge to get to the church here on the island. He speaks Spanish, but I have a hard time now trying to speak Spanish, it is going to be hard for me when I get back to switch over. We are doing good but we always need to be searching for the elect to teach.

Yes it was great to see that Lucas and Eli got married and were able to be baptized. Elder Choate called me on their baptism day and let me know, and then I got to see a picture of their baptism. That is so awesome, I am excited for them.

So this week I was studying Alma 50, and the importance of preparing, covenants, unity, and the importance of parents teaching their children!

I also learned 3 new words but I have already forgotten what 2 of them were... sorry I gotta write them down throughout the week. One of the words was lantejoula, it means Sequin, Ana Vitoria taught me that one hahaha.

Remember to do the small things, read the scriptures, pray, and serve one another,
Love you all very much,

So let's jump in and start talking about the week, on Saturday we met this guy on the street named Fernando, he is from Uruguay. Anyways, he has been going through some really tough times, but had gone to church before and really liked how he felt there, so he asked us if he could go to church with us, we said of course, and on Sunday he showed up and really liked it. On Sunday we had lunch with Daniel and Leilane, they are an awesome family, that really live the gospel. One thing I have learned out in the mission is there are awesome families that I have learned from, each area has a few of them, and I have taken different aspects of them and wrote them down as to what I want my family to be like. They are one of those families that I have learned a lot from. On Monday we taught Fernando about how the gospel can bless our lives if we are doing what we are supposed to. We then taught a young family, Paulo and Sueli and their 5 year old daughter Ana Vitoria. They are a really great family, they are originally from Sao Paolo. We talked about the Plan of Salvation, since the husband lost his mother and brother some time ago. Tuesday, I went and did visas and everything went really well, no issues at all. We also visited Fernando, we promised him if he would start reading the scriptures, go to church, and pray, that things would get better for him. The next day he texted us and told us that he got a job, that he would call us to set up our next appointment. He thanked us for helping him, even though it wasn’t us, we were just the messengers, he was the one that started doing what the Lord wants us to do. Daniel went with us to do visits on Wednesday, and one of the people we were going to visit live at the top of this really steep hill that we have to climb lots of steps. I felt bad for Daniel, but he is awesome and went with us to the top, when we got there they weren’t home. So we were a little bummed and started heading down, as we get a little ways down the family showed up, so we went back up. Daniel was like see Elders, it was just a trial of our faith, God just wanted to see if we truly were willing to sacrifice to see this family. It was a great lesson, and now the family has friends in the ward. On Thursday we met Hector and taught him about the Plan of Salvation, the spirit was really strong during the lesson. We also met with Fernando, who again started to thank us, but again we explained it wasn’t us, we are just the Lord’s messengers. What gets me sad, and I have seen it a lot out here on the mission and also studying the scriptures, that people will do what the Lord wants them to do and their lives are blessed, but then they will quickly forget and return to their old habits and things start going bad again. He is planning to come to church again on Sunday, so hopefully he remains strong and continues to do what he needs to do.

On Saturday we went out to eat at this really cool restaurant, Fornaria Catarinense or something like that, with President and the Elders that are going home, E. Fernandez, Zamorano, Jopia, and Gomes. It was a super cool pizza place that was really nice (and probably expensive). It was a good night spending it with these Elders. I am so grateful for this time I have to serve as a missionary, and the people I get to meet and spend time with and learn from.

Well It has been really hot and super humid this last week. Yesterday it felt like I was swimming when I was walking the streets, I was soaked with sweat in no time. You are either sweating or wet from the rain, either way it seems that when we are out on the streets we are wet.

I love you guys a lot, don't worry to much about me it’s going to fly by and I will have eternity with you guys, so I gotta finish off strong and help other families have these eternal blessing too!

You all are the best!

Love you,
Elder Moore
Well another week has come and gone, and it was a great fun week. The assistants stayed with us almost this whole week to get ready for the Christmas conferences, so it was fun talking and hanging with them. I am enjoying the office very much and I am getting pretty good at all of the stuff that I need to do. In fact just this upcoming week I am in the process of renewing 3 visas and 2 are going to be done with the new procedures, but I am honestly very calm now and now I don’t worry too much. We prepared for the Christmas conferences most of the week on top of our normal tasks we have to do. With Christmas being on Friday, we have had to move up on transfer preparations which are on the Monday following Christmas. We need to have everything done beforehand. This is going to be a big transfer with 17 coming in and 9 going home.

First off, Sunday was great we had 7 investigators at church it was really good. We are only currently teaching a few of them so we have a lot of work of ahead of us. A lot of them were friends of members or family members of active members. Our ward mission leader, Pedro, is on fire, he talked about the ward mission plan, he is awesome and is a huge help with the work. He goes with us on a lot of our lessons and is just a big help. While we were out early in the week we met Leia. Later in the week we had a meeting with her, she is super cool and we had a really good lesson, we talked about eternal families and she really really liked it. We talked about the Book of Mormons we set up another appointment with her, and we are going to go back to see if she read the Book of Mormon.

We had a good FHE with a few different families in the ward. We talked about “A profile of a prophet” by Hugh B Brown. I really like this talk. Here is a really good story that happened prior to that FHE.

God really knows each and everyone of us and knows our sorrow and our pains, and knows how to lift us up. At this time in the mission, the mission is awesome, the office is awesome, but the missionary work lately has been tough. This whole week has been tough as far a missionary work has gone. A lot of our appointments have fallen through and it has just gotten me down in the dumps. Anyways as we went to the FHE, and as we were walking down the street I was feeling really down, and as we approached the house for the FHE a song came on the radio really loud in the house next door. This was the same song that helped me out so much back in eighth grade when I was going through my weird depressed stage, when mom would have to come pick me up from school because all I wanted to do was sleep, and we would go to Wendy’s, it was a song that helped me out a lot during that time. Anyways when I heard this song it was a moment for me that really clicked, God knows us so well, he knows me so well! and what I needed at that moment. Out of all of the songs that have ever been made in the whole wide world that song would be played in a country that is thousands of miles away, a song that is really old, in a house right next to me, I was like I know God knows me and loves me, and this is how simple it was for him to lift me up and cheer me up, it made my week!!! I am so thankful for a loving Heavenly Father!

So the mission Christmas conference was similar to last year and was a blast. We went to the office and got all the stuff for the conference. President gave a great spiritual message, then he went over our ward’s missionary plan, that he is going to use for all of the wards in the mission, titled “UM” POR FAMÍLIA EM 6 MESES, (A Family in 6 months). Then we did the white elephant gifts. Super fun, I love playing that game. I ended up getting a mug with the Floripa logo on it. We had a ton of fun seeing everybody, some companions I haven’t seen in a long time. Our zone made matching skirts and ties, we have great unity. We played the normal Xbox games, board games, checkers, and ping pong. So I realized I will definitely need the gym when I get back! After playing tennis on the Xbox Kinect and finally beating my mission President, my shoulder is super sore just from playing. I am SOOOOO out of shape. But I did beat the President (2 out of 3), which no ever does, so my mission is accomplished. The unwritten rule is whoever beats him gets to pick the next area he gets to serve in, however the Mission President said I would choose the office! hahaha.

Mom I just want to say that I am very grateful that you always write me a TON of questions, I know it means you worry, care, and love me so much!!!!!!! But truthfully I am very healthy, so don’t worry anymore.

We are going to President's house on Christmas eve (what they celebrate here more than the actual day) and then Christmas day with a family in the ward and having a BBQ!

I can’t wait to talk with you all on Christmas day, one of my last two calls before I see you in person. We will do Google Hangouts at noon our time in the office.

Love you all very much! Remember to always do the little things! Share the Gospel!
Another fast week that has passed in the mission. I am getting more comfortable more and more each week with things I have to do here in the office. The only things that gets me a little nervous is that an American is coming directly from Provo, so I will have to register her here in Floripa. Usually the 1st one is done in Sao Paulo but since she just got her visa at the end of her time in Provo she will just come straight here. E. Betts will already be gone so that will be some fun. We are getting ready for transfers. There is still a lot of things I need to do better, organization, planning, and patience. There are a TON of computer things I need to learn, man Dad, I wish I had learned a lot more things about computers from you before I had left. Little did I know, how much I would be needing these skills. Also I have learned that I just have to strive to do Heavenly Father's will no matter what, because he knows what's best for me. Also to love people more, love them no matter what, even with all their defects because we all have them, and you just have to see them for who they can become and not who they are at the moment. Dad always says the mission is like a roller coaster, and here in the office it has been a bumpy ride with a lot of ups and downs, right now I am on a little down slope, but honestly it is very small and I know I am going to have a big climb coming up, so I am so excited!

Today we are going to be making a video entitled "District 3 - The Office". In "Preach My Gospel" there are videos, entitled District 1 and 2, that are used to teach us different aspects of missionary work. So we here in the office decided we would make one showing what missionaries in the office do. I truly didn't realize everything that the missionaries did in the office until I was called here. To be honest, I thought they didn't do much, how wrong I was about that! There is so much work that is done to make things easier for all of the elders and sisters. I don't think everyone realizes how much is done behind the scenes, so that is why we are making the video. It will be funny also, since we all have a lot of fun and joke around here in the office.

So we have been working with this one family here, and a while back we set a challenge with them on reading the Book of Mormon and who can finish first. This past week they came to church it was so awesome to see them there, it had been quite a while since they had gone and when we checked on their reading one of them was on 1 Nephi 17 and the other on 1 Nephi 15. We were so excited for them. It is so true when we are reading the Book of Mormon daily and working to get better at it we will automatically get better, and we will start doing the things we need to do. It is so simple. I loved that talk by President Uchtdorf that you talked about in the email dad. We just need to keep the gospel simple and it is very simple. I think we complicate it and that is when we get messed up. Our Presidents email this week was also awesome, he talked about simplifying the missionary worked and it helped me a lot.

So the funny story for the week was that we smashed a cake into Elder Betts face for his birthday on Wednesday that was pretty fun and funny!" The new word/phrase that I learned this week was liberação de bagagem. I learned it with the missionaries going home, I guess it translates to liberation of baggage I guess is how you say it. It is how much weight they are able to bring home on the plane.

So the big decision this week was whether or not to resole one of my pair of shoes, or buy a new pair. With the exchange rate right now, I went with buying a new pair of shoes. They are very nice and comfortable, I will still probably resole one of my other pair of shoes, and I will be good to go for the rest of the mission.

So just a few things I ask for this week, 1. Send a big handshake to the Godinhos they are a awesome family. 2. Include in your prayers that this ward will be prepared to make the change and catch fire with missionary work. 3. Please read as a FAMILY “Preach My Gospel” especially chapter 9, the importance of members!! and share it with other members in the ward. 4. For Family Home Evening this week please study this talk, https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2005/10/becoming-a-missionary?lang=eng

Have a great week! Do the little things, love one another, do missionary work it’s the best medicine!
Happy anniversary Mom and Dad!
Love you all very much,
So today we saw some people dressed in Halloween costumes, pretty cool to see it. So this week was a lot more calmer and I am understanding a lot more, I was able to do a lot more in the office and prepare for the future. To be honest working in the office creates stress, frustration and annoyances at times, but there are also great times of counsel with the president where the spirit is super strong, and we learn so much, it is so great being out here on the mission and having spiritual experiences daily, which makes all the difference! I also really saw this week how much the President loves us missionary and how he truly cares about each and every one of us. I enjoy being a representative of Jesus Christ and feeling the spirit. So on Wednesday it was a little stressful in the office, but then it was great to get out and work. We went and visited a family that is investigating the church and we were going to teach them about the Book of Mormon. We had left them with the assignment to read Moroni 10:3-5, and when we talked to them they had read Moroni 10: 3-5 and actually the rest of the chapter. It was awesome to hear them talk about what they had read, they definitely believe it. You can tell when people have a true desire it is just super apparent on their faces. I am super excited for them, they are going to keep progressing, they have a lot of obstacles that they will have to overcome, and it will be a while for them to be ready to be baptized. This week is going to be the week of the member missionary work, we are going to be bringing a bunch of members to the visits with them. Member missionary work is great, and it truly helps the investigators with feeling comfortable at church and other activities.

The ward had a great activity on Sunday roughly translated into English as "The day no one missed", it was a super awesome success and we had a lot of visitors and investigators. There was like 20 people in Gospel Principles class. It was great activity, and a key opportunity to talk to members and visitors.

So it is weird that E Betts goes home on this next transfer! It's crazy that we both got here in Brazil on the same day and we both were in Criciuma, and now he is almost home, crazy how fast time flies by! The mission goes by so fast!

Funny story for the week: Okay so E. Keller and Fernandez were calling all the areas this week to find out about the apartments of the missionaries. He called this one missionary and here is the discussion they had. All in Portuguese okay
Keller: Hello Elder....... hows it going..
Other Elder - Doing good here and what about you?
Keller- Doing good I have some questions for you guys that I needed to know. How many bathrooms do you guys have. In Portuguese there is banheiros (bathrooms) and batismos (baptisms).
Other Elder - Well me and my comp just got here and right now we don't have any, but we are working really hard and we are excited and now we can get one...
Keller (Look of confusion on his face) - Wait... What Elder?... (Sudden realization of what each Elder was talking about) hahaha

New word of the week: alfândega it means custom house. So E. Betts bought a map of Floripa and they have a museums of the custom house, so yeah that is how I learned the new word.

I want you all to watch/read His Grace is Sufficient by Brad Wilcox
Its getting better each week, I am learning more, but I know I can do better and at times. I don't get everything done that I have planned in the day and it frustrates me, but a lot of times during the day I will get random calls from someone where I have to buy a bus ticket really quick or other random things that aren't planned, "but come what may and love it". I am enjoying it a lot here but I want to make things a lot more organized and efficient in my work in the office and outside in proselyting.

So as I have mentioned before many times I am eating very good, in fact to good here, we eat out a lot. I need to buy more healthy food, but its hard because we don't have a lot of time here in the office. I am afraid if I stay here in the office too long, they will be rolling me off the plane at the end of my mission and I won't be able to run up and give you all hugs. I really am getting really fat because of all the food. To counter that I have begun to work out almost everyday!

The new word I learned this week is soluços - it means hiccups. I had the hiccups at the beginning of the week and they wouldn't go away, so that is how I learned that word!

Here is a really simple but cool experience we had this week. So E. Betts and I just got finished with a doctors appointment and on the way back E Betts was like lets go this way, I never went this way before, lets see if its faster. Turns out as we are headed home that way, we find a new family that moved into the ward from another ward on the island. He is actually from St David in Arizona and she is from Sao Paulo. They were in the middle of the move and their car died, and it was raining, and their little baby was sleeping in the car, and their cell phones didn't have any credit to call anyone. We were able to help them out, and we also called one of the counselors in the bishopric who came and helped get their car started. So that was Awesome! Like one thing I love about the mission is how many little miracles like that happen in our lives daily, it wasn't something big, but it shows how the Lord is always with us. One thing I know is that when we are living in accordance with the way the Lord wants us to live, then we are worthy of the companionship of the Holy Ghost, and it will manifest itself in our lives! I think a lot of times missionaries and members a like take those things for granted. However every member in the church can and should be having these small little miracles happen in our daily lives.

So the scripture I'd like to share this week is Alma 42:4 We are here to repent and to serve God! Also verse 30 don't make excuses, let the justice, mercy, and long-suffering in our hearts and we need to HUMBLE UNTO the DUST!

So Jacob and I see each other like every week since we are in the same zone, it is pretty crazy that two friends from Surprise, Arizona are thousands of miles away from home in a foreign country and we are literally like 10 miles or less away from each other. #CRAZYWORLD #FLORIPAISBEAUTIFUL #LOVEDOINMISSIONARYWORK

The gospel is really simple, the simple truths are what the Savior wants us to know, these are the things that we need to know to be able to return to live with our Heavenly Father. The Atonement is REAL and Jesus truly knows us and what we go through during our lives.

Love you all,
It is my second week in the Office and I am understanding a lot more this week, I still have a lot to learn but it's a good first step. These two weeks here in the office have flown by! I am enjoying it, the most stressful part of the stuff I am in charge of is with the visas of everyone, but besides that I am getting confident with the other things. Somethings I am still lost with and others I understand perfectly. I am trying to get better organized and figure out ways to do tasks more easier and quickly. So while we are here in the office we look for every opportunity to share the gospel. The other day we were at the federal police station, and we were talking to this one guy while we were waiting and he asked what we believe in. I explained about the restoration and the plan of salvation very simply and he had a lot of questions about the plan of salvation and honestly I am so grateful for the plan of salvation and to know the plan that God made for me and each one of us individually. How each one of us can have complete happiness, I am so grateful for this knowledge and the privilege to share it with others right now and for the rest of my life.

There are a ton of funny events that occur here in the office. Our quartet is super hilarious, everybody has a great sense of humor. We are always with different companion since we split up for lessons when someone has to run errands. We have a lot of fun and there are a lot of funny moments together.

In the short time I have been here I have met a few awesome ward members. There is one family in the ward that are super awesome and help us out a ton, also Pedro our ward mission leader is cool and super funny! I am still very lost when it comes to our area, since we don't get to get out as much as other areas, and our area covers part of the island and across the bridge on the main land. We have been working with a few part member families, trying to bring those that are less active back, and teaching their other family members who are not members. We have visited them a couple times this week they are awesome. We are helping teach everything to them. We are trying to get them to read the scriptures as a family. We are also teaching a young family with 2 little kids, they are impressive. The mom downloaded the gospel library app, and has read a lot.

So the scripture this week that I would like to share is Alma 41:3, 8 and 10. The path is made we just gotta do it and follow it to have eternal salvation. Important to have good works, desires, everything starts in the heart, we need to have a change in our NATURE to truly become more like our Heavenly Father.

Feliz Cumpleanos Yaya!!! Espero que has tenido um bom dia!!

Love and miss you all very much,
Doing missionary work is harder, especially the week of transfers because everyone is leaving and arriving, and E. Betts is trying to train me at the same time. At times it is a little stressful because everyone calls to ask for bus tickets for district meeting and stuff like that, but we also have lots of fun. I am learning quickly and getting the hang of things and E. Betts is helping me a lot and teaching me quickly. I know from the last gen. conf. that the Lord qualifies those he calls, so that will sure be the case here! One thing that is cool about working in "The Office" is getting to have a lot more contact with President and getting to pick his brain and learn from him.

Yes I am doing lots of exercises, because honestly we eat really good here. We don't eat at the members homes because of time, but like every lunch this week we either ate out at a restaurant or somebody bought something really good and brought it in, it is ridiculous, I really have to be careful that I don't get fat!

So we are suppose to leave the office at 4 pm, but this week we have stayed later because of all the paperwork and the new missionaries that got here. However on normal weeks we should be proselyting from 4-9 pm. Like I said we don't get to eat with the members, which stinks big time. Because that was one of the big ways to make the friendship and connection with the members and get to know them and them trusting us. It feels like I had gotten the hang of everything and how to get an area and members pumped up about the work, and now I got thrown a change-up and have to learn how to hit it, but it will be a fun task to figure out.

So funny story of the week: So our quartet of Elders are Elder Betts, Cárdenas, me and we were heading to the bus station to pickup Élder Da Silva's who has a broken foot. But, on the way there, we get a call from one of the assistants, who was already at the airport escorting some missionaries, telling us that a sister from Argentina didn't have her passport. She only had roughly 20 minutes to get her passport, and to get through the gate. So, we get to the bus station, take a taxi to the office to get her passport, and then take the same taxi to the airport. So E. Betts runs out of the taxi to try and find the sister, to give her the passport. But, right in front of the sliding glass doors of the airport, his foot decides that it wants to get stuck on a rock or something, he stumbles, but it looks like he is going to catch his balance, be he continues to stumble as he goes forward to the sliding glass doors. For a split second, we are thinking "HE IS GOING TO BREAK THE GLASS!" Luckily he didn't break the glass. But it made a LOUD sound, as he face planted into the glass, and everything from his shirt pocket went everywhere, EVERYONE in the airport was looking at him. We waited for him to get back to the taxi and make sure he was fine, then we all started busting up laughing, it was so funny!!! Oh, don't worry, the sister got her passport and got on her plane without any problems.

So I will talk more about the "missionary work" next week, just pray for all of the members and investigators in all my past areas, and this area as well. Also, please do missionary work at home and help the missionaries out!!!!

Eu amo vocês.
We are both headed to the office in Floripa. E. Keller is the new AP and I’m the new executive secretary. E. Betts will train me, and we will be in a quadruple companionship of secretaries with E. Cardenas and E. Da Silva as the foursome. It will be a lot of work, but should be a ton of fun! I don't have a ton of time today, but I did do a few audios on the bus ride from Joinville to Floripa. We left at 7:10 this morning and got here at 10:10. I will have more time on Saturday, which will be my P-day now. It is already crazy here with the new missionaries arriving tomorrow and I am completely lost! I am a little nervous and don’t want to mess us, but I know that the Lord will qualify those he calls. It kind of stinks that I won't get to do a lot of normal missionary work, but we will see how it goes.

So General Conference was awesome, I learned a ton on the Sabbath, and on Fasting. My favorite talk was by Elder Larry Lawrence on Saturday, “What Lack I Yet”. It was what I was needing. There was a ton that were great, I also like the talk about the surfers and the net, . It seemed a lot of the talks were about the Sabbath day, keeping the commandments, and prophets and apostles, and save money.

I am so sad to leave Joinville, we really loved the ward and the members, and I think they really loved us too, and our companionship was starting to really find success. It was a really fun and exciting time in the mission, and I am sad E. Keller and I only had one transfer together. We both thought we would be in Joinville until at least Christmas. So I will see E. Keller all the time here in the office and he has the same P-day as me, so, we will still be able to get together and hang out and talk football, hahaha. There will be four new Elders in our place in Joinville, E. Chavez, Luz, and Choate is going to train someone there. So Sonia is doing well, we taught her about the sacrament, and she went to conference and loved it. Also Lucas and Eli and their family are doing awesome they had an awesome experience this week with prayer. They are so ready, I am excited for them. There are a lot of families that we are really going to miss in this area, we will have to visit them if you come and pick me up.

So the new word I learned this week was Fubá which is cornmeal hahah. I learned it because of a recipe Irma Godinho shared with us, and made for us they were awesome.

My favorite scripture and one that honestly I really like is Hebrews 13, it talks about Jesus Christ did most of his important things outside of the walls of the city, and we need to help the people that are outside the church or those that left the church. We need to get them to come back and rescue them.

What I have learned a lot during the mission is all of the little miracles that happen, and just how much the Lord works in our lives each and every day.

I love you all very much, and miss you a ton! Make sure you reread the conference talks and do missionary work,
